The planning of the work to be developed was divided in the following steps:
-
Review Literature (4 weeks):
-
Protection Scheme on a smart grid context;
-
-
Analysis of the impact of integration of Distributed Generation into the Distribution System (3,5 weeks):
-
Analysis of the impact of DG into Distribution System Protection;
-
Definition of the settings used on MV Distribution System Protection;
-
Mathematical prove of protection issues on the Distribution System Protection with Distributed Generation.
-
-
Real time simulation of a protection issue due to high penetration of generation into the network (3 weeks):
-
Adjustement to RTDS Simulator FEUP;
-
Simulation a case scenario of a protection problem.
-
-
Development of an architecture of adaptive protection suitable for Distribution Network with Distributed Generation (5 weeks):
-
That guarantees the protective relay selectivity;
-
Enhance the availability of the DG units during and after the faults;
-
Make use of redundant communication infrastructure, standard communication protocols, and multi-functional relays.
-
-
Apply the developed architecture to a case scenario (1.5 weeks):
-
Simulation on RTDS Simulator FEUP.
-
-
Writing-up the dissertation and a conference paper (5 weeks).
